After graduating in 1985, Piotr Domek began his career at the Institute of Environmental Management. Following its reorganization, he joined the University of Adam Mickiewicz in Poznań in 1990, working in the Faculty of Biology’s Water Protection Department. Since 2005, he has progressed from specialist roles to chief specialist in 2022. From 1991 to 1995, he managed a grant on using mussels as bioindicators of water pollution, leading to Poland’s first biomonitoring system installation in 1994. Since 2009, he has taught lake fauna studies at Lake Durowskie through the Erasmus Program. A member of the Polish Hydrobiological Society, he has presented research at international conferences in Brazil and Romania and chaired three National Bentological Workshops. Recognized for his contributions, he was awarded the Gold Medal for Long Service in 2017 by Poland’s president. His work emphasizes water quality, biodiversity, and bioindicator systems.
