Keita Nishiyama is Visiting Professor at Institute of Future Initiatives of the University of Tokyo since 2020. His research area includes data governance, digital transformation, and impact of AI on the disciplines of social science. He serves many advisory roles to business, including Senior Executive Fellow at Industrial Growth Platform, Inc.. He is also Independent Director of Panasonic Holdings Corporation.
Prior to that he was Director-General of the Commerce and Information Policy Bureau at Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and oversaw policies related to digital economy. He contributed to coordinating G20 Digital Ministerial Meeting in Japan when Japan proposed a new global initiative “Data Free Flow with Trust (DFFT)” along with “Governance Innnovation”.
Keita obtained LL.B from Faculty of Law of the University of Tokyo’s in 1985 and BA(HONS) in Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) from University of Oxford in 1992. He was born in 1963.
