Professor Edgar Pieterse is the founding director of the African Centre for Cities at the University of Cape Town, where his work focuses on the complex intersections of urbanism, sustainability, and governance, particularly in African cities and the global South. He explores alternative urban futures through research, teaching, and curation, with a special interest in how climate change, inequality, and technology shape urban spaces. His latest co-authored book is, Cities Rethought. A New Urban Disposition (Polity, 2024). Edgar is the Co-Chair of the African Mayoral Leadership Initiative, as well as Provost of the Norman Foster Institute.
