In Conversation With Siddhi Gupta – The necessity of multistakeholder engagement

Today we’re meeting with Siddhi Gupta, the design director of the Inclusive AI Lab, a platform focused on building inclusive and sustainable AI tools, programmes and solutions, with a specific focus on the Global South.

According to Gupta, institutional innovation is of central importance because institutions are fundamentally inclusive, meaning they are not just for the elites of society, but for everyone.

They have a public mandate and embody a sense of a collective good.

As such, there is a need to be forward looking so that institutions remain inclusive of all members of society.

Gupta believes that particularly educational institutions are in need of radical change.

This is because educational institutions are omnipresent and reach a large portion of society at phases of their lives, reaching far beyond students to their families and those working in educational institutions.

Hence, innovation made in educational institutions will have a far-reaching impact on all levels of society.

Due to her background in the development sector, Gupta is particularly inspired by creativity and the lessons it can teach us, both in terms of applying it in our work and integrating it through our institutions.

Specifically, creativity offers valuable lessons through its playfulness – serving as a reminder for those working on institutions that approaches to change need not always be so serious – and through its resilience and capacity for evolution.

In terms of innovating new institutions ahead of crises, the key for Gupta is multistakeholdership combined with multidisciplinarity – involving as many people as possible while analysing issues through a multitude of lenses.

According to Gupta, by including multiple perspectives we are made more aware of what the future may hold.

IID 2025 will be the perfect opportunity to discover innovations paving the way for the future of institutions, so stay tuned for updates!
